Valereux, built in Germany by Jos Meyer shipyards in Papenburg as part of reparations for World War One, was commissioned on September 1, 1930 and primarily served in Saigon. While it did not actively engage in World War Two, modifications allowed it to be utilized during the Indochina conflict. In 1956, it transferred to Bizerte and then to Oran.
Valeureux was decommissioned on November 26, 1957. With a displacement of 662t, overall length of 37.8m, and width of 8.5m, the boat is equipped with a triple expansion reciprocating engine and two boilers that can develop 1000hp and drive a propeller. The boat has a maximum speed of 8.5 knots and a range of 3000 nautical miles at 8 knots. It required a crew of 33 men.
